Formally founded in 1781, Dalbeattie was formed as a mill town and granite quarry. Nestled in the valley of the river Urr, Dalbeattie is a convenient centre for the Colvend coast which offers a number of beautiful beaches including Sandyhills and Rockcliffe.
Just outside the town sits Dalbeattie Forest which now features the internationally famous 7 Stanes Mountain Bike Trail. It also provides different pathways for keen walkers or occasional ramblers.
